Song:

All you need is love is a lie, because we had love but we still said goodbye

 John Mayer, Split Screen Sadness

Elizabeth (from Pride And Prejudice) may have had the right idea, or they all did, that love wasnt quite enough, that you had to get along famously. That your temperaments needed to be equal. That you needed to balance one another in someway or the relationship would be some big failure, and youd be left with nothing, weather you were deeply in love or not.

Sometimes its easier to set up a person who will fit you best then to fix yourself to fit with the one you truly love. Before I mentioned being selfless and exerting for someone else what you would rather for yourself, but maybe that only make successful movie love. Perhaps a successful marriage doesnt truly need love at all; perhaps all it needs is good mutual understanding. Youll do right by one another, and live comfortably.

Its like having a slightly good friend youre willing to share a bed with. It might just work out better. Maybe were all too affected by the media and thats where we got this notion that you shouldnt live without love and that marriage is based in passion. Why not marry based on furthering life for yourself, or for comfort.

Look at the divorce rates, its not like you need to stay together anyway.

At that time, it was very rare to marry for love.

Now, its very rare to hold on to love. You get so obsessed with love, and with having it, that youre willing to choke it when its with you just so it cant possibly leave. And when you choke something, theres no doubt its going to run away.
