PPS Students Call To Action

Song: Standard Lines - Dashboard Confessional

The talk is on everyones tongues and rustling through the halls. Theres an email going around they say, and its nothing but a murmur.

A walk out. Thursday the 19th. 10:10 10:15 am.

Anyone who doesnt think this is a good idea shocks me. We need the media attention. What was it; five years ago that Binsmeade Middle School saved their art program by walking out. I support it fully.

We students cant afford to not do this. Look at what theyre threatening to take away:

-Our spring sports, despite $200,000 to save it give to us by Portland Trail Blazer, Damon Stodamire.

-Outdoor School. The thing I feel most important to the adjustment between elementary school and middle school and one of the best opportunities for kids in PPS.

-All Arts. Music, drama, choir, even photo if they cant afford the teacher.

-Fifteen or more days cut from the school year. This threatens to nullify the class of 2004s, my classes, diplomas. We would be faced with becoming the class of 2005.

Now who can say standing up against this isnt worth it. They need to see were serious before theyll start listening. Our schools are 55 million in debt. They dont know how to handle it.

Our teachers or threatening strike.

Our school board is threatening destruction of our best programs.

Our students are sitting by and saying no, but not yelling. This is our yell.

Without our arts and sports we are not a school, and I wouldnt spend an extra year in such a place.
